Not fussed about 'women only biking myself', am more at the male level (fast and technical), (and it's always better riding with the men).
Not new to mountain biking and moving from UK; just sold my Trek zx8000; and looking to buy another (newer). Any one know of any good bike shops there that sell them, and how much? Or any 2nd hand good one (newer model).
Lastly, can anyone recommend any regular club to hang out with (used to go on a weekly weds eve ride, night ride; and weekend ride). 30 miles (15-20 miles evening rides). Mud, hills, and technical stuff.
Cheers :)

Welcome to the North Shore Suzanne. Time for an attitude adjustment honey, no such thing here as the Male level. The women here kick arse, in fact some of the better riders are women.
Anyway if your looking for a bike, then checkout the shops section on this site. http://www.outdoorvancouver.com/mountainbiking/shop.aspx
Vancouver has a large number of quality bike shops, each specializing in different brands. Personally I ride a couple of Cove Bikes. They are made locally, and been around since the early 80's. I know a lot of the people behind the brand, and they all ride the local scene. I swear by them.
Check out http://www.outdoorvancouver.com/shop/cove_bike.aspx for more info.
For clubs, hmmmm well the clubs section on this site is good. I've ridden with both Cove club and pedals and pints which has now changed to something else. I would ask at one of the local shops.

Coming from the UK you say! Cool. Vancouver is a great place to live.
What brings you here and what part of the city are you planning on living in?

Hi Janet welcome to the North Shore. What type of riding are you doing in the UK? Judging by your current setup I'd say a lot of XC. The trails here are more free-ride orientated so you may want to consider a different setup than you are currently riding. Best to go into a bike shop and speak to them.
See you on the trails,
Mel

Hello,
I'm suzanne, and coming from near London; raised here but always loved Canada, esp Vancouver (being an outdoor sports enthusiast myself etc, am told by a Canadian friend in Ontario that Vancouver is more for me).
Sure women kick ass on bikes, that's true, was one of the faster ones in my club here, as was another girl; still 2 x engineers in our club were the fastest (male), no one could catch them (no female either I have to say); although one of the engineers may disagree with me as there was a national racer (female) that sounded like she kicked his arse on a bike, must've to be a national racer.
I have a good job lined up, passed my exam there 2 yrs ago so may as well use it rather than lose it (as they say). Though it's taken 1.5 yrs to get everything completed and authorised (all the processes required with my new employer, Canadian immigration etc); but on a good note, I am unlikely to return to UK after this, but to settle there for good (Canada), especially after all the effort getting there in the first place.
Thanks for your welcome, and your advice. I'll be there within 2.5 weeks, and will definately check out those bikes, and the cove ones :)

Welcome to Vancouver Suzanne, sounds like you love bikes, so Vancouver is an excellent choice then. If your looking for a bike from the Cove then I suggest you go to the main street store in North Vancouver. Ask to speak to Skip or Craig, they'll sort you out.
Rubber side down!
