Grouse Mountain: Grouse Grind
Vancouver's famous hike is a great workout with the reward of a bar and restaurant at the top. Oh, and the view is spectacular too. The steep climb sees you rise 853 metres (2,800 feet) over 2.9 km (1.8 miles) of trail. The average completion time is 1.5 hours but a seasoned hiker should make it easily in under an hour. Fastest time is 27:18 set by Derek Reed at the 1997 Grouse Grind Mountain Run ... try and beat that! If you prefer cheeseburgers over trail mix there's also a gondola which runs year round.
The Grind is only open at certain times of the year depending on conditions. Check the official site at hiking.grousemountain.com/grousegrind to make sure it is open before leaving. In the mid summer peak season there can be 5000 people on there each day! So if you're looking to get away from crowds then the Grind might not be the best place it.
